Little Man is Three Weeks Old! Time is flying by. He is starting to look more awake at times and is really checking out his surroundings. He particularly enjoys marveling at ceiling fans, the photos of the girls behind the couch, and my hot pink and white striped bathrobe.
R is, thankfully, an AMAZINGLY chill baby. I was 1000% percent certain I would get a demon this time. How could I not? I have already had not one, but two chill kiddos…I figured it was time for the devil. But somehow, each babe had been a little more relaxed than the last. I am not sure what I did in a past life to earn this honor…but THANK YOU, JESUS! When he gets fussy, he can easily be calmed with a bounce or a boob. The “goat” (that shaky-cry “mah-ah-ah-ah” sound that tiny babies make when they are screaming at the absolute top of their lungs) is rare around here right now.
Little Man is a champion eater, and he’s also a pretty good sleeper already, giving me mostly three-hour stretches at night. He eats relatively fast, while lying in bed with me, and then goes back down easy, so I have come to love our midnight time together. Unlike B and W, there do not seem to be any GERD issues, so I can just burp him and lay him right back in the bassinet…without having to desperately try to stay awake for another 20-30 minutes to keep him upright so he doesn’t puke. This makes ALL the difference.
The girls have been adapting pretty well. They are incredibly patient and don’t seem to mind the time he sucks from me. Imaginative, independent play time seems to have arrived JUST IN TIME for our family. They love to hold R and help with anything and everything…diapers, baths, dressing…and they can’t WAIT to feed him. We’ve had a few behavior/listening issues as they take advantage of the fact that our hands are sometimes LITERALLY too full to act quickly, but I figure that’s par for the course. No one seems to be scarred for life by the growing family yet!
As for Don and I, HE is happy to be getting out to a few happy hours after so long in isolation…so if you are out and about, hit him up! I am trying to squeeze in some time to write every day (more blog posts coming!) and I’m also having fun documenting a lot of the mundane, day-to-day family stuff in my insta stories. I’m not much for photo or scrapbooks, and this is a nice substitute.
Thanks to everyone who is checking in on us and sending love from afar! It’s a bit lonely not being able to share the rare joy of a new baby with everyone we’d like to see in person, but we appreciate all the kind words, thoughts, and prayers.
