I was all organized. Lists made, priorities noted. I went to bed early and set my alarm for 5am. I was ready to conquer the New Year.
The baby had other plans. He did not wish to sleep, and was up several times in the night for hours at a time. He didn’t want to lie down, didn’t want to nurse. Don and I took turns walking him around. I can count on one hand the number of nights we’ve had like this since he was born. Little man is normally an excellent little sleeper, but not last night. He was wired and awake, with a dry little cough…probably the last remnants of covid, and maybe feeling a little of his mom’s Sunday night scaries.
Got up (at 7am), worked out, made breakfast, sat down at the computer and started cranking out some emails. At 9am, a colleague calls and oh-so-kindly asks, “Did you know today is a HOLIDAY?”
<insert record scratch>
No, I did not know today was a holiday. I obviously should have, because we ALWAYS observe New Year’s Day SOMEHOW. I did not know I had one more day to be a lady of leisure. I did not know that I could have slept in without anxiety, luxuriated in a long morning cuddle with my baby, and worked on the dinosaur puzzle with the kids before breakfast. I did not know these things.
But now I do.
Cheers to getting that workout in anyway! Never miss a Monday, am i right? 😉
